It is no doubt that Adekunle Gold makes hits upon hits without stress plus AG Baby is a King of transformation too.
In 2020, the 28-year-old father of one released his highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Afro Pop Vol. 1’ which embodied singles such as AG Baby (feat. Nailah Blackman) and Okay among others. These two tracks with their accompanying music videos dominated the airwaves and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Davido’s FEM and DJ Neptune, Joeboy & Mr Eazi’s ‘Nobody‘.
This was when Adekunle Gold redefined his new look, the true king was emerging. His “Sade” punk and soft highlife were completely gone! We now have a finer and chubbier afro-pop artist looking like a dark-skinned Jiddena on braids. The beards too…FANTASTIC!
When initially criticised for his new direction in music and change in style, he was quick to say he has no apologies whatsoever for choosing to evolve with time and grow in his craft.
On his verified Twitter page, Adekunle Gold aired his view about these complaints, he said:
“I don’t want to ever hear that you have changed sh***t. Yes! I have changed! People should move on,” he said.
One song that swallowed up several thousand other songs in 2021 was Adekunle Gold’s “High” with Davido. “High” currently has over 11.4 million views on YouTube. He recently announced that his fourth studio album would be released in February.
Looking at his musical journey and transformation especially in the past two years, one would easily agree with 2Baba(2Face Idibia) when he said AG Baby smashed the past two years with hits back to back and has the “Maddest” transformation in the Nigerian music industry.
”I just want to assume that it is only me that noticed that AG Baby smashed the last two years with hits back to back? Plus the maddest transformation. Abi I no well?”.
What do you think?
