Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been returned to the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic until tomorrow Friday, July 23 for the continuation of the hearing of the charge levelled against him.
Chief Sunday Igboho is being tried for obtaining a Beninese passport without being a citizen. He was arrested together with his wife at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou on Monday, July 19 while trying to catch a flight to Germany.
After hearing the case at the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou, the government lawyer didn’t address journalists.
Sunday’s lawyer, however, explained that “this is not the best time to say anything on the case” and then expressed optimism that things would turn out for good.
His wife, Ropo was however released.
Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) had on July 1 raided the residence of the activist in Ibadan, Oyo state. Sunday Igboho had planned a “Yoruba Nation Rally” in Lagos two days before the raid.
The DSS raided the residence, killing two people and arresting 12 aides but Igboho escaped.
The agency alleged that Igboho was stockpiling weapons, and subsequently declared him wanted.
The agitator had been on the run since the raid.
