West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has released the date for the much anticipated 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The date has been set from Monday, 16th August to Friday, 8th October 2021 all over West Africa. However the exam will end on the 30th of September in Nigeria.
Mr. Patrick Areghan, the head of the Nigerian office of WAEC made the announcement today in Lagos. He stated that the exam will run for seven weeks. Areghan attributed the delay in commencement to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said ”Therefore, in order not allow anything to reduce that standard, we shall be collaborating with the federal and state ministries of health and education…”
Mr. Patrick emphasized the integrity of the exam. He added that over 25,000 senior teachers will be supervising the exam.
In the same vein, he added,” It requires a lot of preparations and even more, especially in the face of the rising cases of insecurity and the resurgence of coronavirus pandemic in the country.” He stated that over 1.6 million students will be taking part in this year’s WASSCE.
