Earlier today, Variety, an American publication announced that Tunde Balogun is set to become the latest CEO of Def Jam records.
Balogun co-founded Keep Cool with the likes of Courtney Stewart, Jared Sherman and Jon Tanners. Keep cool is an RCA imprint. Keep Cool houses artistes like Lucky Daye, Normani and Madlib.
Tunde is the executive vice president of A&R at RCA.
Tunde will be replacing Paul Rosenburg who stepped down early this year after four years as the CEO of Def Jam. Rosenburg, who happens to be Eminem’s manager, stepped down after facing serious backlash. He was criticized for his inability to produce another set of “top artists”.
On the other hand, Tunde Balogun has made a good name for himself in the music industry. Tunde played a big role in getting Cozz deal with Sony and Dreamville. He subsequently helped in SZA deal with RCA and TDE.
In addition, Tunde used his position at RCA to revive R&B with the signing of Wizkid, Khalid, H.E.R. That of Tems and Jayla Darden is still in the works.
Def Jam record was founded in the late 1980s by Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons with its major music genre being R&B and Hip-hop.
Recall that Jay-Z was once a CEO at Def Jam in the 2000s. He went on to sign top artistes like Rihanna, Kanye West and more.
